In relation to pac-man's sound (not the siren but the sound he makes when he eats pills) I ran into that when creating my own synthesiser controlled by an xbox controller. I had two sine waves with their pitches doubling every x seconds, controlled by the two thumbsticks. (up would increase and down would decrease their pitches independently). Anyway I found if I held both of the thumbsticks upwards the sine waves would get so high they would overflow the speakers and then keep looping that overflow faster and faster, and it actually sounded like pac-man eating the pills. And thats when I realised it might actually be true, he really might be eating pills and getting that high.
> The research was tricky because we didn’t want to reach out to Namco for help too soon, instead planning to wow them with a close-to-finished doodle.
[and not at all because they'd see this as a copyright violation or make demands, no sir]
> The Michael Bay of doodles
[still no software engineer though]
I like how the cutesy haha-but-actually-no style we know too well of tech companies today was already bleeding through back then...
> I wrote a story with the same title in 2015, but it got mangled online, and I’m unhappy with the writing now – so this is basically a complete rewrite of that essay.

Plus, the Medium site from the 2015 post even links to https://aresluna.org in the author section of the sidebar.
If you got to https://aresluna.org, it is apparent that aresluna is Marcin Wichary's website.
